THE SEAL’S WRAP-UP REPORT
Written by Howie Ritter
Saturday afternoon The SEALS rolled in on buses at Mansion Park in Altoona and then proceeded to Roll All Over the Red Raiders of Bellefonte 37-3!! The game was played in conditions not even fit for ducks but certainly was to the liking of SEALS!!! After last weeks game played in Frigid Temps and this weeks game in the Pouring Rain and Cold, I am almost hoping for a Blizzard or some other brutal conditions as this resilient bunch of SEALS seems to thrive in the worst of conditions!!! Coming off of last weeks near perfect game it was going to be a tough task to match that one. There were enough miscues and Penalties to say this was by far not The SEALS Best game but they battled the elements and overcame any problems they had and still took care of business to Dominate the Raiders!! Offensively when healthy, The SEALS have more then enough weapons and fire power to match up with anybody if given the protection and time to throw and or opening up some running lanes. We SEAL fans have been spoiled this year as we have one of the Best QB’s Leiby (12-18-0 253yds 3TD’s and 22yds rushing and 1TD)in the State throwing to one of the Best Tandems of WR’s Cope (7 catches for 210yds 3TD’s) Inch(3 catches for 17yds) in the State. You cannot shut both of them down and have to pick your “poison” as you will, as one or the other or both will Burn you at any given time and then throw in the mix Showers, Nylund, Ravy, Kerstetter and Dressler and it is a Nightmare for a Defense!! Top that off by throwing in RB Kahn(24-106yds 1TD) and his tough, shifty and hard nosed running style …….yes we are spoiled!!! BTW I think Kahn with that performance also broke the 1000yd rushing barrier on the season!! Congrats!! None of this is possible though without the GRUNTS, BIG UGLY’s, BIG SEXY’s or whatever name you choose to call this OL!!! They have come together over this past year and have been playing “lights out” as this season has progressed. SHOUT OUT to those BIGS as it takes a HUGE toll physically on their bodies getting pounded each and every play in those trenches especially the longer the season goes the more the “wear and tear”!!! There have been some snafus here and there but for the most part this group( Critter, Dreese, Zeiders, Schon, Bogar, Baney and Sheesley) have kept the defenders off of Leiby giving him time to find his Incredibly Talented group of WR’s, and they have also done a great job giving Kahn just enough of a crease to break through so the Offense could have this type of Outstanding Season and Roll On!! Special Teams were solid with no major kick or punt returns but most importantly was no fumbles catching the kicks in those conditions was Big!! The Defense, WOW, what can you say about this Tremendous group. The last two games they have given up a Grand Total of 3 points and that was in yesterdays game coming off of a very questionable fumble that our WR never had possession of and the D came in and held the Raiders to a FG!! The Defense was all over the field and all over the RedRaiders as well, punishing them every time they touched the ball. The Big3 (Dressler, Baney, Critter, Zeiders, and Everrett) rotated in and out all game trying to ‘’”stay fresh” and it worked as Zeiders who usually only gets limited snaps on the D made a BIG impact getting a sack and a Huge hit in the end zone for a safety!! LB Sheesley was in his “normal” “seek and destroy” mode and was in the Raiders backfield it seemed every other play making his presence felt as I believe he is really enjoying his first taste of post season football this year!! The rest of the LB’s (Croman 1INT, VanZijl, Oyster, Kahn) also got a few good “licks” in as they were making the RedRaiders run side to side trying to find a hole to run up field but none was to be found!!! The DB’s (Showers, Swineford and Ravy) all had Solid games in pass defense as well as helping out in run pursuit and making a few tackles along the way!! To make it this far in the Season to the Final 8 takes a total TEAM effort and this Bunch has certainly done just that!! Don’t quit now Boys and keep this juggernaut rolling!!! Next weeks game will be against Bethlehem Catholic but not sure just when and where yet!! Enjoy the “W” today yet Boys and with the Holiday this week its gonna be a short week of practice so “buckle up” your chin strap and back at it Monday!! Critter another Solid performance and game!! You had Your hands full on the OL again but did another great job protecting the “blindside” and providing some key blocks in the run game!! Great job on the DL getting penetration and disrupting the flow and helping to string out the plays until the LB’s got there to help out!! AWESOME Game Critter!! I just absolutely love to watch you play and am not ready for it to end so practice hard again this week and keep trying to improve your game each and every week!! Gonna be a Tough one this week for sure so heal up and get ready for battle!! You ALWAYS make me Proud Son!! I sure do Love me some #52!! Hoping maybe a shorter drive for this weeks game and hope to see this SEAL Team well represented Yet again at this coming weeks game!! I think even though we had twice as far to drive we probably doubled Bellefontes fan base so Kuddos to The SEAL NATION for Your Support and Battling the elements these past two weeks!! Special Thanks and shout out to Kierra for the Awesome Pics and Battling the elements each week to give us these Great pics!!! Thanks!!!

Ricky Cope’s big night leads Selinsgrove over Bellefonte
Written by: Billy Splain on Saturday, November 18th, 2017
Logan Leiby found a wide open Ricky Cope running down the seam and hit him in stride to put the Seals up 7-3 with 4:29 left in the first quarter. That 53 yard td strike would set the tone at a rain soaked Mansion Park where Selinsgrove earned a shot at Bethlehem Catholic in the PIAA State Quarterfinals, defeating Bellefonte 37-3. Cope ended up with 210 of Leiby’s 238 yards of passing in the game for 3 tds, earning him the WHVL Player of the Game.
Bellefonte started off strong, driving 66 yards to the Seals 13 where Chris Persiko hit the 30 yarder, but the drive was costly. Raider quarterback Dylan Deitrich was injured on the drive and would not return. “That hurt us” said Shannon Maning. ” I’m not giving excuses, Selinsgrove is a heck of a team and they earned the win. We were just pretty banged up.”
Leiby continued to light it up on the next drive, hitting both Cope and running back Joseph Kahn for big gains. Kahn finished that drive with an 11 yard score to make it 14-3 at the 11 minute mark of the second quarter.
The Raiders continued to move the ball with Nick Palosky behind center, getting to the Seals 20, but a fourth down play ended in a 9 yard loss. On the ensuing drive, Leiby once again hit Cope on the same seam route and he was off to the races for a 64 yard td. “It’s un-explainable, the adrenaline you get when you catch the ball and start running, it’s just crazy” said Cope of his long td runs.
The Raiders held the Seals on their next drive to three plays and got the ball at the 45. Palosky rans several times getting his team within field goal range again, but Clayton Sheesly blocked the attempt just before the half. Bellefonte reached the red zone 3 times and came up empty during the game.
If things weren’t bad enough for Bellefonte, the opening drive of the second half also ended inside the Seals red zone. Their defense held tough agains on the next drive, but Bellefonte once again was unable to convert. The walls then came tumbling down when Selinsgrove punted early in the fourth quarter, pinning the Raiders at the one. Blaize Zeiters busted through the line and registered a safety making it 23-3 with 9:39 left in the game. Cope and Leiby would finish out the scoring, Cope hauling in a 44 yard td pass and Leiby with a five yard run. “Gotta give it to Cope and the line for playing a great game” said Leiby.
Kahn ended the game with 138 yards on the ground and the one score. “We definitely gave up some yards. We preached bend but don’t break” said Seals head coach Derek Hicks. “Early in the year we struggled to run, but it’s been a stress of ours to run the ball.”
